A festive September

Lot of events in Gallipoli with fun and recreation

Salento is kissed by the sun and caressed by the wind, and even in September it offers great chances for fun and recreation, like excursions, feasts, town celebrations and concerts.

Gallipoli is the centre for night life in Salento, from the promenade to the Castle, from the historic centre to the island of Sant’Andrea, it is all a sight to be admired. When the huge amount of tourists in August have left, it offers valuable moments for introspection.

The sea of Gallipoli in September has a strange kind of magic: the air is light, the beachfront begins to withdraw and the primal beauty of nature returns. Even excursions become more enjoyable due to the cooler winds. Therefore it is the right time to go and visit the Regional Natural Park of Porto Selvaggio. A section of coast indented by an uncontaminated sea, with a splendid pine tree forest under whose shade one can relax, and a huge variety of protected flora and fauna. In the opposite direction there is the Regional Park of the Island of Sant’Andrea and the beachfront of Punta Pizzo. It is another naturalistic treasure divided into many paths that are ideal for trekking or biking, where one can admire the Audouin’s gull and the Mediterranean maquis.

Entertainment never stops on September evenings in Gallipoli. The coolest and most trendy events are integrated by patron saint festivities and town celebrations, like the feast of the Madonna delle Grazie on the 6th and 7th September in Galatone, only 30 minutes from Gallipoli.

It is a religious feast with the traditional procession along the roads of the centre, the lights and a concert by the “Luigi Bruno & MEDITERRANEAN PSYCHEDELIC ORKESTRA”. All this rounded off by the bread-loaf and wine celebration.

From the 10th to the 16th September in Cutrofiano there is the “Li Ucci festival”. It is an important festival of popular traditions that is named after three famous popular minstrels: Uccio Aloisi, Uccio Bandello and Narduccio Vergaro who were among the first minstrels to make the pizzica known all around. The program is very dense and full of dancing, but not only. There will be presentations of books, exhibitions, wine-tasting events as well. You will really get a real taste of the Salento Grecìa.

A completely singular event will take place in Nardò that is worth signalling out. It is ideal for adults and children and it is the first human table-football tournament. It takes place on the 5th, 6th and 7th September in the Salandra square. It is great fun not only for the players but for the spectators.
